Welcome to Your Local Epidemiologist page!

My name is Dr. Katelyn Jetelina. I have a Masters in Public Health and PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

During the day, I’m an Assistant Professor at a School of Public Health where my research lab resides and where I teach. I have a secondary appointment at a medical school too.

In my “free time”, I write this blog. It started in March 2020 when my Dean asked me to update students, faculty, and staff on the developments of the pandemic. In 19 months, it’s grown to an audience of 350,000 people and reached over 106,000,000 people in 166 countries.

If I’ve learned one thing from the pandemic, it’s the lack of scientific “translation” to the community. Without the translation, many are left to biased reports, inaccurate descriptions of the current state of affairs, and confusion and anxiety.

The purpose of this page is to "close the communication loop" by providing a direct line of science to you. My posts are 100% data-driven and backed by the most recent scientific evidence. Some of these are my own analyses, some of these are based on other brilliant scientists peer reviewed studies, and some are science-driven resources.

Thanks for subscribing!

Love, Dr. Katelyn Jetelina (YLE)
