Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. As a health care provider at the VA. JUST HEARTBROKEN AND DEVASTATED. So reading your columns is a reminder that there are people of resistance in every agency that are still PUBLIC SERVANTS.
As a health sciences librarian at an R1, losing the CDC as a reliable information source is heartbreaking. It's as much an emotional blow as a pragmatic one. So much senseless and pointless destruction that can't just be reversed when this regime falls.
We will persist and adapt and carry the truth forward because that's who we are and what we do, but sending you lots of love as we grieve the murder of the CDC by those who don't understand the true stakes. 💔 We're in this together! ❤️
Thank you for your leadership in helping us navigate the attempts by this administration to kill the CDC. May it survive for the next 3 years til we can get a scientifically rigorous HHS Director
What a sad note to have to write... I grieve with you. I love Public Health and having been to the CDC for many meetings over the years, and personally knowing many CDC staff over those years, I am also sad - and angry and incredulous. AND determined! to continue to spread good science as much as possible, to continue to care for and about my Public Health colleagues - there and elsewhere - and to try to validate, acknowledge and listen to the grief of those colleagues. If you or anyone would like to connect on this side of the issue - please contact me at lhall.eachmatters@gmail.com. I am working under a contract through the Association of Ohio Health Commissioners with funding from the Ohio Department of Health, to address grief as a Public Health issue - specifically for Public Health staff. I am both honored and humbled to be able to provide these services. We must keep our hope up - to keep our cups full so we can continue to help our communities in all the ways we have, do and WILL! Thanks YLE for being a ray of hope in these times!
This is so great - scientists of all stripes, but especially public health researchers and practitioners, have been experiencing acute collective trauma since January (and way before that, as oublic health has been increasingly under attack for years). Even in my slightly removed role as a librarian working with all these researchers and students, watching dedicated public servants and altruistic research and the process of science itself be haphazardly destroyed for no reason has been absolutely brutal. The only way they win is by breaking our spirits, because they only know how to destroy while we know how to build. Anything that nurtures our spirits and sense of purpose is the key to us carrying on, so I applaud your focus!
thanks - and Hi! email me to connect re what's happening in Ohio with grief as a PH issue... lhall.eachmatters@gmail.com. Looking forward to meeting you!
What a sad day for America. This is tragic, and it is disgusting. RFK Jr. has just reneged on the very promise he made to Sen. Bill Cassidy, MD (that the CDC's statement about the safety of vaccines vis-a-vis autism would remain) in order to get the last vote he needed to be approved. I hope clinicians are able to retain the trust of their patients sufficiently well so that responsible advice about their health continues to be heard. And I pray for the day when CDC and all of America's public health institutions can re-emerge from the ashes of this debacle.
Retired pathologist here. When I started my career 46 years ago the CDC was the envy of the world. In my hospital practice I relied on the data that daily poured out of the CDC. Reading your post makes me want to weep. Please keep writing your excellent news letter! I now rely on independent sources like you. Thank you.
Perhaps the sorriest aspect of this is that the average citizen won't know the import of what has happened until their loved ones and friends die in the next pandemic.
I interviewed for a role on Jennifer Layden’s team in early 2024. I have a ton of experience in interop and terminology and I was excited about helping to elevate information interop nationally. Every day I am grateful I didn’t get that job - I’d have been a probie and riffed very quickly. Or forced to sit there with my hands tied watching the CDC be crushed by an admin that cares nothing for Americans
This is unquestionably devastating for everyone. A question: now that this misinformation is "officially" on the CDC website, how will this influence FDA rulings on vaccine preparations?
All this chaos was preordained in the lead up to the 2024 election. All you that read this column and voted for Trump… are you liking what you've got?
You voted for a 6–time bankrupt business failure to run the world's largest economy and run it into the ground is what you are getting.
He put a heroin addict in charge of health care so no surprises to what you all are getting. The list goes on.
The latest CDC garbage was posted on the eve of heroin addicts father's 100th birthday. I can't imagine the father would be approving were he here today.
Don't expect the next three years to be any better. We all better hope another covid doesn't show up during this time.
As a pediatrician, I have relied on the CDC website for travel information—what the latest travel vaccine/medication recommendations are for patients traveling to various countries. Where I can I get reliable information for this now?
Hi Rachel (fellow pediatrician, though retired). I'd probably look to the WHO. They are still functioning without corruption. Try this: https://www.who.int/travel-advice/vaccines
As far as alternate sources of information, would you recommend the ECDC? It seems that their vaccination information page for example seems be untainted by misinformation. The specific guidance (vaccination schedule) is different from what is (was) offered by American authorities but is this now a case of take what we can?
Dear Katelyn, This is a recruitment effort to you and your readers. There is a <project2029.me> It is an independent and non-partisan project of volunteers working to provide a roadmap to undo Project 2025 and to rebuild the institutions that have been devastated by the current administration. We are recruiting people who know how to make CDC and etc. better than they were and are interested in writing both policy and Day One action. Please go to the website and learn about us. There is a volunteer form to fill out if you want to help. Be specific about your skills and interest. Disclosure, I am a grassroots member of the Advisory Board and a retired Family Doctor.

I just want to say this is awesome, and thank you. I am a lifelong Ohio resident.

And then they'll blame it on "illegal aliens."
Your input is so valuable and honest at a time when honesty is hard to come by.
Thank you for keeping us updated with information we can actually trust.
It's heartbreaking to read that we cannot trust info coming from the CDC.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! We all have watched this rolling train wreck. Your new guide for us is invaluable! Keep it up-please!

Thank you for this. I am not personally educated to contribute to your effort, but I will repost on social media.
In the "undoing," is this only in regard to the CDC, or other aspects of the horrible 2025 document?
This makes me so sad.
