One of my biggest struggles as the parent of a teenager is her getting enough sleep.

There are so many mixed messages to these kids... participate in extracurricular activities! Study hard and get good grades! Be sure to get 8 hours of sleep! Oh, and leave for school at 7am.

There is not a teenager on the planet who can do all of these things and get 8 hours of sleep. The school system works against them. My kid is at activities and extracurriculars until 9pm a couple nights a week (which are so healthy and important!), but also has hours of homework and studying (also important, of course).

So the thing that falls by the wayside is sleep. And I know this has been an issue for teenagers since the beginning of time. They naturally go to bed late, and their bodies want to sleep late, but schools start early. It feels like a lose/lose situation. I wish schools would modify their schedules a little, but I realize there are only 24 hours in the day and there's nothing any of us can do about that.

Thank you so much for the reliable information on sleep needs - I have forwarded it to my team and family. I appreciate the attention on supplements as well. I'm curious if you would consider a newsletter on iron. I've had good iron but low ferritin and came across 'The Iron Protocol' facebook group. I've increased my iron significantly almost a year ago and it truly eliminated many of my ailments. I am aware that iron can be toxic, so I always have that in the back of my mind but if I even miss a dose I can tell a difference so I fear cutting back. All my research and dosage has been on my own; it would be helpful if my trusted source, YLE, shared their knowledge and guidance. Thanks for being MyLE, you are brilliant.
