Remember, the Governor works for us. We do not work for the Governor. So, for your voice and science to be heard, channel your energy away from social media in the following ways:
1) Sign the petition here
2) Write to the Governor’s office here. Write to him why public health measures are important to you. If you need some lingo, you can copy and paste this
“I am a Texan and will stand by public health measures loud and proud. I strongly encourage you to listen to the scientists and healthcare workers and teachers. We need to protect them until everyone has the opportunity to be vaccinated and we reach herd immunity. Sincerely, [your name].”
3) Also, Dr. Smith and I would like to attend the TEA (Teachers Education Agency) meeting that is meeting to discuss the implications for schools. They need to hear from the scientists (not just politicians). Teachers need to be prioritized for vaccines. Do any of you guys have connections to this meeting that could get us in the door? If you do, please email yourlocalepidemiologist@gmail.com with the subject line: TEA.
4) We are also open to talk to Texas state officials regarding data-driven ways to protect our businesses, our neighbors, and our families in equitable ways. Here is a good start of what the data is telling us right now.
WE ARE SO CLOSE. But we are tripping before the finish line.
Love,
Dr Emily Smith and Dr Katelyn Jetelina
