I am a 67 year old grandma and in our generation vaccines were a part of raising kids. We didn't have the internet giving us 24/7 access to "news" and parenting advice. We trusted our pediatricians' recommendations, got our news from TV broadcasting, the library and newspaper. The ability to get information instantly on the internet is amazing. But I watch my educated, smart daughter-in-laws constantly second guess every decision they make because they are bombarded with guilt inducing information like the last Tylenol fear mongering study.

I am totally convinced that the cause of autism is genetic in my family because all 3 of my children are on the spectrum, my spouse is likely but never diagnosed, my oldest brother, my father, and some cousins on my husband's side. Yes, I did take Tylenol at least during one pregnancy, but short term and minimal dosage. I cannot recall if that was for a headache or fever.

As the parent of a neuro-divergent child I find this pathologization of autism reprehensible, as well as the corollary mother-blaming. It's not just the specious science around Tylenol, it's the implicit assumption that autism is a "disease". It can be disabling for some, of course, but the spectrum is incredibly wide and diverse. I imagine most of us are familiar with truly awful history behind the RFK Idiot's claims, extending back to Hans Asperger in Nazi Germany. So sad to see this garbage given the imprimatur of the federal government. Thank you, as always, for your remarkable posts.
RFK’s real purpose is economic. He is creating a legal basis for his friends (and financiers), the vulturine plaintiff bar, to flood the courts with massive lawsuits against the manufacturers of Tylenol. We will soon be deluged in TV ads, “Do you have an autistic child? Did you take Tylenol during pregnancy? Call Legal Vultures right now!” The company will collapse under this pressure, and another useful drug will disappear. My wife is allergic to Advil and relies on Tylenol to maintain her pain free mobility. I don’t know what we will do without it.
The irony is that RFK Jr's entire long con is dependent on the continued obscene profits of Big Pharma. How would he make his millions in liability lawsuits if there weren't these enormous concentrations of wealth? As the parent of a neuro-divergent child I find this pathologization of autism reprehensible, as well as the corollary mother-blaming. It's not just the specious science around Tylenol, it's the implicit assumption that autism is a "disease". It can be disabling for some, of course, but the spectrum is incredibly wide and diverse. I imagine most of us are familiar with truly awful history behind the RFK Idiot's claims, extending back to Hans Asperger in Nazi Germany. So sad to see this garbage given the imprimatur of the federal government. Thank you, as always, for your remarkable posts.
RFK’s real purpose is economic. He is creating a legal basis for his friends (and financiers), the vulturine plaintiff bar, to flood the courts with massive lawsuits against the manufacturers of Tylenol. We will soon be deluged in TV ads, “Do you have an autistic child? Did you take Tylenol during pregnancy? Call Legal Vultures right now!” The company will collapse under this pressure, and another useful drug will disappear. My wife is allergic to Advil and relies on Tylenol to maintain her pain free mobility. I don’t know what we will do without it.
The irony is that RFK Jr's entire long con is dependent on the continued obscene profits of Big Pharma. How would he make his millions in liability lawsuits if there weren't these enormous concentrations of wealth?
