As the parent of an autistic child with many asd people in my family (for generations!) with similar traits am disappointed in the framing of this piece. Autism and neurodivergence isn’t a disease. My child wasn’t damaged in the womb.

If I may, as a non-autistic person and the parent of a non-autistic child:

Unless it causes extreme behavioral deficits--and I believe this is rare--autism isn't a terrible outcome. I have friends on the spectrum who are loving and thriving. It's been a bit tough for them to learn to "read" social behaviors, but they have learned. And they have many other gifts.

I appreciate this post, but I do think it's important to acknowledge that for the majority of people, autism is a difference but not a deficit.
