Can you please explain how its more contagious? Is it because someone that has the variant infection are they twice as contagious as say if they were infected with COVID from 10 months ago or is it that they are contagious longer? I can't seem to find info on just what does it mean its more contagious (highly contagious) in comparison to the virus 10 months ago. Thank you so much, Shelly

I'm interested in the neutralizing antibodies decreases but not efficacy. What does that mean? Also - how do we related a 6 fold decrease to the percentages of efficacy?

Hi, this is unrelated to this specific post. Regarding Covid vaccines in pregnant women, I am familiar with data from both DART studies. When can we expect to hear any info/data on the pregnant and lactating women who have received the vaccine thus far?

Any data regarding the new variant/school children in the UK/risk in being maskless during lunch? I know that's super specific but it's a necessary part of the day and being unmasked ups the risk factor considerably...

Hello from Perú. We are getting hit hard by the UK and the Brazilian variants in this second wave. Lots of reinfections, and people reaching the ICU faster than before. As the Brazilian variant also has the “immune scape” mechanism that the South African variant has, can we assume that the AZ vaccine will perform in the same way? Also, will a vaccine like Sinopharm, offer a better protection against all variants because it creates an immune response to more areas of the virus rather than just to the spike? Also, what is your opinion of mixing vaccines? Should we look into mixing them in order to increase protection against variants? What could be the side effects if you use a different one as booster later on? Thanks!

Can you comment on the CDC saying vaccines may not work after 3 months? This was published on cnn.

Hi from UAE. Would you be able to provide some information on Sinopharm? It’s the only vaccine available here for us and I’m no anti vaxxer (would take Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca in a heartbeat) but there seems to be so little information so I don’t know about efficiency or safety. Presumably there isn’t much which can go wrong with a dead vaccine? And if it doesn’t have good efficiency can I take a different vaccine later?

I’m sure others would love to see Sinovax and Sputnik added here too - I believe AstraZeneca and Sputnik are doing a combined trial too now?

Thanks for all your amazing information and hard work so far, I’ve linked to your page on all the breastfeeding and expat groups here and people have found it really helpful.

My state, Florida, has a whopping 204 reported cases of the UK variant (officially). But what they're not reporting is how they know this. Are they testing every confirmed COVID case, or just a sample of confirmed COVID cases? I've seen the UK variant has symptoms different than the original virus (now it's mainly a sore throat, congestion, and malaise) and that's what my DD experienced. However the state claims there were only 10 cases at the time she was tested positive. How accurately can the reporting agencies identify variant strains? I suspect it's significantly more wide spread in my city and state than what is being reported on the local news.

I’m confused. Moderna is predicted not to have impact on efficacy. So if I receive the vaccine, I’m not immune to the B.1.1.7 variant?
