Can you talk a bit more about child to child (under 6) transmission? If all adults are vaccinated but the 4 kids (2 families) aren’t what is the chance of kid transmitting it to the other kids? Thanks so much.
I’ve been reading a lot of the recommendations in your posts and on the CDC website, and they all recommend avoiding medium to large sized gatherings, but don’t actually define what size gatherings would be medium or large.
On the CDC website I feel like they’re trying to avoid giving specifics by saying it depends on the venue and whether you can socially distance, and I get that part but that is a separate risk factor to the size of a gathering.
Does anyone else have any further information on what constitutes “medium” or “large”?
that’s a great question. i would guess (complete guess) medium is defined as 50 and large as 100. i’ll keep out an eye for you for more definitive numbers
I thought I had read somewhere Medium was 25 and Large was 50, but for the life of me I cannot find where I saw it. I have been following this handy tracker for my county since September. You might like to review for area-specific "Event Risk Assessment Tool". https://covid19risk.biosci.gatech.edu/ :)
hi melissa- sorry about that! i thought i sent it to you, but must have gotten emails from multiple melissa’s. what’s your last name? or email? and i can send it now.
Re: Variants, can you explain if Covid Tests that are being performed across the nation are testing for the variants? I can't find any information about this. How can we track the variant impact on positivity and RT numbers being reported?
hi heidi- the PCR test can’t detect the type of variant that’s infected. we got lucky with B117, though, because we can use the PCR test to detect this but it was a fluke (two channels light up instead of three channels). it’s not being systematically done, though.
Isn't the wild card in all this the Brazilian variant P1?
yes brazil and africa variants are both very concerning
Looks like it is the African variant, not the Brazilian that is the wild card?
