Fighting misinformation: Two events next week

The past two weeks have been...a lot. I was doxxed, which means my work information was published among anti-vaxxers. This initiated a flood of harassment "one degree closer" than what I've become accustomed to online. Who knew, 16 months ago, that I would need increased security at my office door. Or offered police escort. Just because I'm a scientist endorsing public health.

But here we are. In 2021. In the United States of America.

So, the two following events could not have come at a better time. Both of which will focus on fighting anti-science aggression and misinformation.

  1. First, on Monday (June 14) at 12:30PM EST the Office of Public Integrity will host a live event in which Liz Essley Whyte and I will chat. Liz is a journalist who was also doxxed this past week when her personal information was published on InfoWars. We will debrief our lived experiences and discuss fighting the pandemic of misinformation. We hope to answer questions from the audience too. Sign up for free HERE

  1. Then, next Wednesday-Thursday (June 16-17) the Center for Immunization Research and Education will host a conference focusing on improving vaccine uptake in the US. I’ll be speaking at 12pm EST, but probably more exciting is the star-studded speaker list. Like Dr. Sara Oliver (head of the ACIP at CDC) or Dr. Noel Brewer or the many, many more listed below. It’s not every day you can hear directly from them. This conference is targeted for public health officials or health care professionals (up to 8 free CE too!), but anyone is welcome. You can register for free HERE.

Hope to see you there!

Love, YLE

Thank you so much for everything you do. So sorry that you are a target. The world is so crazy but what you are doing MATTERS! We appreciate the blood, sweat and tears you put into keeping science at the forefront of everything. Big hug from one working mama of small kiddos to another.

Thank you so much for continuing to share information about COVID-19 research and data with us. I’ve come to rely on this newsletter for my decision making. I can’t fully express how helpful it is. It’s horrendous that you’re being harassed simply for sharing scientific data. Please keep doing what you’re doing. I’m deeply grateful for you.
