I just can’t. We live in Houston where there is every variant. I get a vaccine tomorrow as I am over 50 and qualify, but my children can’t. It’s like he just put a six pack vodka in everyone’s hand and said you know you shouldn’t but it’s okay to drink and drive.
Shameful. Embarrassing. Every single one of my kids (some adults, some teens) texted to say some version of “I hate it here”. My 18 year old said it best “what a guy...he cured the COVID by gaslighting it”. I can’t imagine being an epidemiologist today.
But isn't the reason all the numbers are looking good are because we've been following these mask mandates??? So removing them would then result in increasing numbers... why make people feel as if it's 100% safe to go about your day freely? I'm sorry, but "freedom to determine their own destiny" still equates to the general population paying for hospital stays via taxes and such. What an idiot. 30 million individuals in Texas, if they were able to vaccinate 1 million people per day, 7 days a week, that will still take 30 more days of the first dose, plus 3-4 weeks while waiting on the second dose to be given... then add in an additional week before the vaccine would be optimally effective to stop severe disease and death... that's another ~75 days... why not wait until 75% of the population is immunized? Freedom = death in those numbers. SMH. Good luck Texas!
Governor Abbott's misguided decision makes me sick and I will vote my opinion when he is up for re-election! Our Collin County commissioners have also bungled the vaccine administration badly. Many of us registered early as Collin residents. But they haven't figured out the process yet. So, we've had long drives traveling to other areas to get vaccinated. Again, I will vote my displeasure when County Judge Chris Hill runs again. He does not follow the science, even though he got Covid.
Seriously, how should we deal with this news? I feel like it’s just another punch in the gut. How do people who are careful and cautious get through this for the next who knows how many months until we can get a vaccine? It’s just heartbreaking.
big sigh. So thankful I got my second shot today. Hoping and praying for the 50% of the elderly in Tx who have not yet had a chance to get their vaccine and all the high risk people in the third group who haven't even started yet. oh my.
News like this is frustrating for everyone but I hope you know that there's a lot of us out there listening to the science (you) and making our decisions based on that. Thanks for everything you're doing to provide us with an unbiased assessment of the data !

Lamenting with you that politics and economics are apparently going to win out over people's lives and health.

I was looking for "from The Onion" but this is real????
I’m frustrated, disappointed, embarrassed, and angry at this decision. I’m sure he wanted it to coincide with “Texas Independence Day”.

History will not treat them kindly.
Thank you for all you do. I listen to you over Abbott anyday.
🤦🏻♀️ Wow. Not a great decision...
