Well, this newsletter seems to be growing as quickly as Delta is spreading. Welcome to all newbies! I have a few housekeeping items/reminders for everyone…
During the day, I’m an epidemiologist. While I have my own research lab and teach, I’ve found myself advising policy makers, talking to national and international media, and helping a lot with on the ground COVID-19 stuff. I’m also a mom of two little ones. Once they’re asleep, I write these posts.
This results in a few things:
There are going to be typos. I try to make it a habit to proofread with a fresh brain in the mornings, but sometimes this doesn’t happen. I think everyone will live.
You won’t be getting a newsletter every day, but I try. If you don’t get an email one day, it doesn’t mean you missed something or that your subscription isn’t working. It just means that my infant was up all night. Or it means I was up until midnight working on Delta things.
Please continue to send me questions or concerns! I can’t message all of you back, but I do read them. This is the only way I can get a good handle on community questions. That said, I will not read your message if it’s more than 1 paragraph. I also cannot give advice for individual situations.
I recognize a paid subscription doesn’t get you much other than infographic/flyer PDFs and commenting powers. If I had more time to dedicate to this, I would make it more appealing. But I just don’t. Your paid subscription does keep the science and all my work free for the general public. Without your support, this wouldn’t happen. So, thank you.
If you send me harassing messages, I will ask you to stop one time (apparently I have to legally do this). But if you continue, you’ll be reported to the authorities without warning. I already have an open case and adding more names to it is very easy to do.
I hope you find this “translation” of science useful in guiding your knowledge of the pandemic and making tough decisions in an ever evolving landscape.
Welcome to the party!
All the best, Katelyn
I read two editions of your newsletter and subbed. It’s awesome. And I thank you for distilling the data and the frequent updates.
I have not seen a typo. If I do, I promise not to be offended.
As for the infant, s/he is more important than us. So enjoy the time when you can.
As for the obnoxious people. Sorry. They suck.
Keep up the great work and thank you!!
Thank you for everything ❤️❤️Super mom, wife and epidemiologist. It’s a LOT and we get it. So a super extra “thank you” from all of us out here hobbling every data point🙏🏼💛
