Well, we may have peaked in the United States. Acceleration continues to slow down (second graph), which is a great sign. Cases are incredibly volatile right now, though, so let’s hope this trend continues. This is about on track when we compare our Delta curve to other countries. It looks like everyone peaks between 40-60 days and we are coming up on 60 days.
I am in Michigan and have been watching with great trepidation if we will get clobbered by delta. Our vaccination numbers are now behind Florida’s. My family is vaccinated—except my 11-year-old.
Our local severe weather shelter is trying to decide whether to open this year. It is run by volunteers and only open during the coldest, wettest nights of the year. We typically have from 1 to 6 guests and 2 volunteers. The guests all sleep on cots, spaced at 6’ intervals, in one room. Everyone is masked when away from their cots. While seated on the cots or sleeping in them, guests are not required to wear masks. There is good ventilation in the modern building. Is it safe for guests and volunteers to open this winter? Are there guidance documents for shelters? Statistics on outbreaks in shelters (I read of some in Seattle last year.). It’s a worthy cause, but not if people are less safe. (Submitted Sept 9)
Hi there! Do you do private Q and A? Over email? I am a paying subscriber, but didn’t know if you offered that as well. I wanted your scientific opinion on something specific. Thanks so much!
Imagine how ugly this would be if we didn’t have vaccines! Did anyone really expect the “hesitant” to rush to get them once the vaccines received approval? Now they just developed a new excuse. They vaccines NEED to be approved for kids. That’s when things will finally slow down 🤞🏻.

Of course I am prepared to pay whatever the fee😊

Any thoughts on outdoor sports for unvaccinated kids? Have your thoughts changed since you initially made the colored chart in June? Thanks
Happy Anniversary!
