Florida needs a local focused epidemiologist newsletter to combat our Surgeon General’s campaign of disinformation so we here will get an honest assessment of current public health issues and risks

Yes, but they won't be able to live in Florida, because DeSantis will send local BI agents to harass them at gunpoint and steal all their electronics.

Good on you, although this should not be necessary since it is what local public health authorities should be doing as a central part of their work. You will be disturbed to know that New Mexico has NO local public health communications from its single state public health office. Where we live, for example, the finding of West Nile in birds was announced by the Chief of Police, since Animal Control had picked up the birds. Our recent outbreak of pertussis was announced by the School Superintendent. Further information about this for the community came from from her with the help of a few people in town with long experience in global health and one local physician with a keen interest in public health. They then provided additional communications on the matter, as well.

That is so sad.

Hi Dr. Jetelina,

Having worked closely with Dr. Lisa Costello (lmcostello@hsc.wvu.edu) and Dr. Julia Fraustino (jdfraustino@mail.wvu.edu) on messaging and publicity during the COVID-19 pandemic, I would highly recommend them as sources for a geographically-base resource in West Virginia.

Thank you for all of your great work!

Peace,

Jeff

I am a retired epidemiologist from Monroe county, West Virginia. I was an epidemiologist for 30 years in 4 different County's in Florida. I retired in 2018 as the Health department director/health officer. I was called back in March, 2022 and worked remotely in for St. Lucie Co. Florida through the entire Covid crisis. I created Situation Reports weekly and community presentations. If I can help WV get a more local focus on Public Health info, let me know.

love this! I'm in southern Oklahoma (or what we call FAR North Dallas lol), and I'd love to have a DFW-based one. Excited to see this plan develop

I was initially saddened to hear that Matt Willis was retiring from his position as our county's public health officer (Marin County, CA). Yet in his announcement video, he also announced that he's joining the YLE team. That is awesome! He's been an incredible public health officer here and guided us through the pandemic so capably. I was also thrilled to see him be part of today's announcement. It sounds like a fantastic idea to bring regional expertise to the table. Thank you!

Terrific news! We had a great public health person in charge during the pandemic here in San Diego. But Dr Wilma Wooten has now retired (well deserved) but I’m certain that her replacement is equally capable. Happy to support this new endeavor! Thank you!

Hope there will be an Ohio report. We loved Dr. Amy Acton during the pandemic! Too bad the crazy threats toward her family were even a thing!
